Solsoft Announces Support for Cisco PIX® Security Appliance Software Version 7.0

Mountain View, Calif. - March 28, 2005 - Solsoft (www.solsoft.com), a leading provider of network security policy management solutions and a Cisco Technology Developer Program member, today announced that Solsoft Policy Server can now manage the new Cisco PIX security appliance software version 7.0.

"Simplifying the management of Cisco PIX 7.0 is a critical issue for our customers," said Pierre Baudin, Solsoft's vice president of worldwide marketing. "Supporting this new version of Cisco's leading firewall appliance underscores Solsoft's commitment to provide scalable security policy management solutions for large enterprise, service provider, and government networks."

Customers leverage Solsoft Policy Server's centralized and automated security management features to design, deploy and document security policies across large and complex networks. With Solsoft Policy Server, IT administrators help assure the integrity of critical applications and services by applying consistent, enforceable and auditable network security configurations on any number of Cisco or third-party appliances.

In its latest Technology Pack (device driver set) for Cisco, Solsoft adds management support for new Cisco PIX 7.0 features including:
  • Security Contexts: Virtual firewalls can either be defined as independent devices within the same network or managed as individual entities in different maps in the Solsoft Security Designer graphical user interface. The latter option is useful when centrally managing separate security policies for subsidiaries of large corporations.

  • Transparent Mode: Solsoft Policy Server supports this new feature and can manage appliances deployed into an existing network environment without re-addressing.

  • Spoke-to-Spoke VPN Enhancements: Solsoft's automated, drag-and-drop VPN configuration engine leverages new features in Cisco PIX 7.0 that provide the ability for encrypted traffic to enter and leave the same interface, thereby improving spoke-to-spoke (and client-to-client) VPN communications.

  • Upload Improvements: Solsoft Policy Server's intelligent upload mechanism takes advantage of enhancements in Cisco PIX 7.0 that streamline configuration changes, such as the use of flash memory during the file upload process and new upload protocols like SSH v2 and SCP.
